At the 2014 Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival (VAMFF), we noticed a huge trend in monochromatic colours. From Scanlan & Theodore to Alpha60, many Australian designers embraced a clean, pared back look for their 2014 winter collections.
Dressing in one colour allows you to create a minimalist look with a modern twist. It also encourages you to mix and match pieces in your wardrobe and wear them in a fresh new way.
Here are Est’s six favourite looks:
Scanlan & Theodore
Perhaps a nod to the new Melbourne Fashion Festival sponsor, Virgin, we love Scanlan’s bold application of red. Revered for its timeless quality, Scanlan’s winter collection exudes confidence and a soft femininity.
Jac+ Jack
Is there anything more elegant than white-on-white? Since it launched in 2004, Jac+ Jack have carved a reputation for creating beautiful knitwear and jersey pieces that are luxurious, modern and timeless. We love the contrast of textures in this relaxed, everyday style.
Bianca Spender
In these outfits, we love Bianca Spender’s use of deluxe textures and intriguing cuts. Beige, tan, apricot, bright orange, this outfit is perfect for autumn or spring.
búl
Since she launched her label búl in 2010, fashion designer Virginia Martin has always embraced an understated palette of ash, navy, black, sand, white and cream. In this look, she bravely uses a bolder shade of red, but mixes it with her fluid shapes and uncomplicated style.
Bassike
Far from basic, but great for easy everyday comfort, a Bassike garment can be mixed and matched with anything in your wardrobe. In this look, we love the hint of colour seen through the detail of the sleeve and the collar. It is minimalist yet contemporary, stylish yet effortless. To lift this look, swap the grey pants for a pair of your favourite jeans.
Yeojin Bae
Although we seem to have a bit of a red theme going, we had to include these beautiful ensembles by Sydney-based Yeojin Bae. We love the contrast of delicate lace with a stylish pencil skirt. It’s a bold look with a classic shape and is extremely versatile.
